Learn how live yeast culture stabilizes rumen pH and boosts dry matter intake in high yielders.

1. Understand the rumen first

The rumen contains microorganisms that help cattle and buffaloes use their feed. Digestive balance depends on the whole ration and on consistent feeding management. Changes in ingredients, inadequate forage or uneven intake can affect rumen conditions; a supplement alone does not correct these management problems.

2. What live yeast culture may contribute

Research discusses several possible roles for yeast products, including effects on rumen microbial activity and fibre digestion. Responses vary with the strain, product and feeding conditions. Live yeast, yeast culture and other yeast-derived ingredients should not be assumed to be interchangeable.

3. Choose the product carefully

Check the label for the ingredient type, storage requirements and manufacturer directions. Ask your nutritionist how the product fits the existing ration. Keep the package dry and follow its storage instructions. Do not replace balanced feeding with a larger supplement dose.

4. Monitor appetite without overlooking disease

Track feed offered, leftovers and changes in intake. Reduced appetite can have several causes, including illness and ration changes. An animal that is dull, bloated or repeatedly refusing feed needs veterinary assessment rather than repeated changes to supplements.

5. Review the overall feeding programme

Introduce feeding changes through a plan agreed with your nutritionist. Record the start date, ration changes and observations so that any response can be assessed fairly. Treat yeast support as one part of nutrition management, alongside forage quality, clean water and dependable feeding routines.
